Internet-ready mobile sales set to soar

Demand for mobile broadband modems is set to grow by 32 per cent each year, according to industry experts.

The revelation will no doubt have those in electronics and IT hardware sales jobs keeping a close eye on sales statistics to see whether the prediction rings true.

It has been followed by Ofcom's Nations and Regions Communications Market 2008 report, which found at least 20 per cent of UK adults have accessed the internet via their mobile phone.

Mobile Broadband reports that industry officials estimate a positive trend in imports up to 2012.

Officials told the website: "Over the next five years, overall demand for mobile broadband modems is predicted to see a compound annual growth rate of 32 per cent, reaching shipments of 17 million units by 2012."

They add that more and more users are expected to sign up to mobile broadband as consumers continue to embrace the technology's convenience.

Meanwhile, Ofcom's report suggests that Dundee has the largest number of mobile internet users with 34 per cent.

However those in sales jobs in London could also benefit from the trend, where 32 per cent of mobile users have accessed the internet on their handsets.
